This course explores the concept of child development, considering communication, play, stages of development, First Aid, health and safety and develops skills to work with children through placement settings.
To succeed on the course you will have to be committed to both college work and work placement. You will have to show a professional interest in working with children, and be prepared to learn new skills such as First Aid, and how to carry out observations. You will show initiative and be a hard worker.
The work experience is a key element to the course and as well as going out twice weekly you will also have the privilege of working in a setting for block placements.

An interesting and exciting course that provides practical and theoretical training, in the care, education and development of young children which provides access to a range of fascinating careers.
Our experienced lecturers deliver the course and monitor the candidates on placement where possible. We provide a fun course giving you practical experience in the classroom and strongly recommend that candidates undertake some practical work experience during the 2 year programme.
To be successful on this course you will need a desire to work with young children, enjoy their company, be very patient, work well in a team and have initiative. Good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise are essential to successfully complete the assignment work, which is a large part of this assessment-based course.

This qualification covers a range of subjects such as psychology, sociology and anatomy and physiology to teach you the skills needed to progress into a career in health and social care or to study at university.
All lecturers have a professional background in the Health and Social Care Sector ranging from mental health, youth offending, child care to working with adults with learning difficulties. During the course, a variety of guest speakers and off site visits to local health and social care providers will give you an insight into a variety of different settings.
During the course you will complete 200 hours work experience in up to 3 different health and social care settings. This provides you with valuable experience to demonstrate your suitability to prospective employers. A range of trips are organised such as a trip to the Crown Courts, a trip to London and visits to a range of different health and social care settings.
