    The course covers choreography, performance and theory. Students will study the principles used to create dance choreography, producing trios, duets, solos, group dances and site specific choreographic work. Students will develop performance skills and dance technique through a range of styles including ballet, contemporary, jazz, urban and international dance. They will also have the opportunity to experiment in contact improvisation, developing their interactive, performance and choreographic skills. Students study nutrition and anatomy, allowing them to understand their own and others bodies.

    Working as a Dance company, students will learn repertoire, researching and directing material to create emotive dance work for performance and competition. The course also expects students to see as many professional performances as possible.

    You will study a range of music styles and learn new performance skills. By the end of the course you will have performed in our own studio theatre and at a variety of other venues, culminating in the preparation and delivery of a substantial music event.

    Staff are experienced professional performers including vocals, guitar, world music, brass and keyboard skills. The Music Academy stands in its own grounds and has a range of fully equipped practice rooms along with a large recital room, a study centre and teaching spaces. Theory classes will be held in a new high spec music technology room. The recording studio enables you to make your own CDs on professional equipment.

    You need to have an interest in a wide range of musical styles especially pop music from the 1950s through to the present day. Bring your own instrument to sessions.

    Trips include visits to higher education institutions to experience Level 4 / 5 work.

    You will be involved in every aspect of performing and can focus on dance, drama, stage management or voice performance.     Students plan and create their own devised performance as a theatre company. They will learn performance skills and become a director producing their own pieces of theatre with designated actors.     The first year serves as an introduction into the discipline and art of professional acting. Students will explore the work of practitioners in the field of drama improvisation including Viola Spolin, Keith Johnstone and the traditional theories of Stanislavski, underpinning the principles of acting which will be applied practically throughout the course culminating in an end of year production.

    In the second Subsidiary Diploma Year, students apply the practical skills and theories learnt on the Certificate programme. They will plan, devise and create their own performance as a theatre company.     The course offers opportunities in lighting, sound, props, set and back stage operations required for performance and students have access to our fully rigged, 100 seat, studio theatre.

    Success on this course relies on commitment and communication. Responsibilities will include attending production meetings and meeting deadlines. You may be required to liaise with companies for sponsorship or funding, booking venues and equipment. You will be required to publicise shows and create budgets. This is a ‘hands on’ course which encourages good timekeeping, communication and effective problem solving.

    This is a very practical course which allows realistic experience of working in a range of production scenarios; from our in-house theatre to professional theatre spaces and Theatre in Education touring productions. Study trips include backstage tours at large scale London theatres such as The National Theatre and performances of high end professional shows.
