It gives you the opportunity to try a broad range of disciplines in year one before you specialise in one or two areas. The units covered, include, Printmaking, Photography, Fine Art painting and drawing, Fashion and Textiles, 3D design, Graphics, Illustration, sculpture.
You will have a passion for the art and design and a willingness to experiment with a range of subjects in year one before you specialise in year 2. You will need an open minded and enthusiastic approach to wide ranging ways of learning. You will also need to work independently in your own time to develop and refine your work to the best of your ability.

Dance BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma / Diploma

The course covers choreography, performance and theory. Students will study the principles used to create dance choreography, producing trios, duets, solos, group dances and site specific choreographic work. Students will develop performance skills and dance technique through a range of styles including ballet, contemporary, jazz, urban and international dance. They will also have the opportunity to experiment in contact improvisation, developing their interactive, performance and choreographic skills. Students study nutrition and anatomy, allowing them to understand their own and others bodies.
Working as a Dance company, students will learn repertoire, researching and directing material to create emotive dance work for performance and competition. The course also expects students to see as many professional performances as possible.

Music BTEC Level 3 Diploma

You will study a range of music styles and learn new performance skills. By the end of the course you will have performed in our own studio theatre and at a variety of other venues, culminating in the preparation and delivery of a substantial music event.
Staff are experienced professional performers including vocals, guitar, world music, brass and keyboard skills. The Music Academy stands in its own grounds and has a range of fully equipped practice rooms along with a large recital room, a study centre and teaching spaces. Theory classes will be held in a new high spec music technology room. The recording studio enables you to make your own CDs on professional equipment.
You need to have an interest in a wide range of musical styles especially pop music from the 1950s through to the present day. Bring your own instrument to sessions.
Trips include visits to higher education institutions to experience Level 4 / 5 work.

Music Technology BTEC Level 3 Diploma

The college has two recording studios capable of recording up to sixteen tracks of simultaneous audio, a multimedia suite featuring industry-standard Pro Tools 10 recording software and a professional theatre for drama and music productions. There are also opportunities to collaborate with local music venues when planning and organising events.
Whilst studying music technology, it is likely that students will have the opportunity to gain additional experience from guest speakers, study trips (including the British Music Experience), university open days and collaborations with local music venues.

You will be involved in every aspect of performing and can focus on dance, drama, stage management or voice performance. The first year serves as an introduction into the discipline and art of professional acting and performing, exploring the skills and purpose of theatre including “Epic Theatre”, “Naturalistic Theatre” and “Theatre of Cruelty”.
Students plan and create their own devised performance as a theatre company. They will learn performance skills and become a director producing their own pieces of theatre with designated actors. They will also take part in a theatre tour travelling around the county performing to at numerous venues with daytime and evening performances.
Successful students embrace different styles of performance from physical theatre, cutting edge contemporary theatre and monologues to pantomime.

Performing Arts – Acting BTEC Level 3 Certificate / Subsidiary Diploma

The first year serves as an introduction into the discipline and art of professional acting. Students will explore the work of practitioners in the field of drama improvisation including Viola Spolin, Keith Johnstone and the traditional theories of Stanislavski, underpinning the principles of acting which will be applied practically throughout the course culminating in an end of year production.
In the second Subsidiary Diploma Year, students apply the practical skills and theories learnt on the Certificate programme. They will plan, devise and create their own performance as a theatre company. Students will also conduct (with tutor support) their own special subject investigation thus identifying their own progression routes.
Extra-curricular activities such as theatre visits and trips are organised to contextualise and support the students learning and development.

Production Arts – Stage Management BTEC Level 3 Certificate / Subsidiary Diploma

The course offers opportunities in lighting, sound, props, set and back stage operations required for performance and students have access to our fully rigged, 100 seat, studio theatre.
Success on this course relies on commitment and communication. Responsibilities will include attending production meetings and meeting deadlines. You may be required to liaise with companies for sponsorship or funding, booking venues and equipment. You will be required to publicise shows and create budgets. This is a ‘hands on’ course which encourages good timekeeping, communication and effective problem solving.
This is a very practical course which allows realistic experience of working in a range of production scenarios; from our in-house theatre to professional theatre spaces and Theatre in Education touring productions. Study trips include backstage tours at large scale London theatres such as The National Theatre and performances of high end professional shows.

The course explores a range of stimuli and studies the choreographic principles used to create dance producing trios, duets, solos and group dances. Students will develop their performance skills and dance technique through studying a range of dance styles including ballet, contemporary, international dance, jazz and urban.
The course is led by teaching staff with a range of dance knowledge and experience. Workshops are arranged with professional dance companies allowing the students to experience how professional dancers produce work for performance.
Students will have the opportunity to work as a Dance Company learning repertoire, researching and directing material to create emotive dance work to perform in front of an audience and enter into local dance competitions. The Dance course also expects students to see as much professional performance work where possible.
