    The department has two custom built bricklaying workshops with individual workstations for you to develop your practical skills. The Staff are fully trained to advanced craft level, and have considerable experience of working within the construction industry.

    To be successful in the course you will need to have an interest in carpentry and be able to cope with the physical requirements of working in this industry. The course is designed to prepare you for a career in construction so you will need to show you are a good team player and be flexible to carry out other duties when required.

  • Introduction to Brickwork

    An introduction to bricklaying skills. It is suitable for those with no or limited previous knowledge providing the first level qualification to develop bricklaying skills for employment or as a hobby. Successful completion of the award requires candidates to construct and evaluate a brick/block built construction of their own design. By the end of the course you will be able to: • Know how to set out walls • Produce various brick/block bonds • Build a basic brick/block product

  • Introduction to Woodwork

    A practical course developing skills in basic woodworking joints, using and maintaining hand and power tools, building methods, communication and information on-site and safe working practices.

    Upon completion of this award you may wish to specialise in carpentry skills and attend the college on a full time basis to gain a higher level award. There may also be the opportunity to gain employment within the woodworking industry.
