Andover Town Football Club Triumphs again at Portway stadium

Andover Town Football Club Triumphs again at Portway stadium.

Andover Town Football Club (ATFC) finished their most recent match 5 – 2 against Andover New Street. The Andover derby was on Tuesday 29 September at ATFC’s home stadium, Portway Stadium.

Andover Town Football Club have been undefeated on their home turf so far this season and continued this with their most recent win on Thursday night. ATFC were 2 – nil down at half time but pulled it back in the second half, scoring 5 goals.

Out of the 15 man squad, 10 players were Andover College and Sparsholt College alumni, including Team Captain, Brendan Holmes. Andover College alumni, Adam Pattison and Tom Pattison scored 3 out of the 5 goals scored by AFTC. These 10 players progressed into Andover Town Football Club after starting their journey at Andover and Sparsholt College’s Football Clubs.

Ron Bertie, Head Coach at ATFC and Football Academy Lecturer at Andover College, said “I am proud of the good performance the team gave tonight and I was delighted with the way the players responded to being 2 nil down at the end of the first half. We still have lots to work on and improve. I was initially disappointed with the way they played in the first half as we fell into the opposition’s trap, but after half time the team stuck to our team’s philosophy and played in the way we have been practising. The team demonstrated good character and did the town proud.”

Brendan Holmes, ATFC Team Captain and Andover college alumni, said “This was a great comeback for the team, and it was an intense but enjoyable match to play. I am proud to captain this team every week and I look forward to seeing what’s to come this season.”

The team are excited to have spectators back to watch their matches and support them during their games. The Government’s Track and Trace system was in place and the stadium was only filled to half capacity to ensure it met Government Guidelines.

Andover Town Football Club’s next match is an away game on Saturday 3 October against East Cowes Victoria Athletic Football Club in the Isle of Wight.
