Andover College celebrates ‘Women in Digital Industries’
Andover College has been preparing young women for dynamic futures in Digital Technologies with their recent, ‘Women into Digital Industries’ event. Held on International Women’s Day on 8 March 2018, the event showed over 600 students aged 13-14 from local schools how a technological career path is desirable across a diverse range of sectors.
Hosted at The Lights Theatre, the inspiring event included a range of local and national women speakers sharing their personal experiences and advice, highlighting the wealth of opportunities available in the digital sector. Hands-on experience was also available to bring students’ learning to life across forward-thinking technologies from animation to virtual reality and robotics!
Lana Suhova, a former Andover College student and creator of Dalry Rose Digital’s message to young girls was to embrace the digital world, saying: “I never imagined a love of blogging and social media could turn into a business for me. Over the years I’ve had opportunities to work with international brands including Topshop and Harrods through my online presence so my advice to young women is use the digital tools around you to your advantage and have fun, because you never know where a creative passion could take you!”
Meg Bullock, Digital Marketing Officer and Andover Marketing Coordinator said: “Our first ‘Women into Digital Industries’ event was a phenomenal success. The venue was buzzing with energy all day and it was so rewarding to expose students to the scope of digital careers available in the UK’s fastest growing industry. There is a shortage of females in technological sectors today, however by showcasing some of the industry’s leading ladies we’re confident young women in our community will engage, create and learn the vibrant digital skills for future successes.”
