English Literature Students See Ian McKellen Starring as King Lear

English Literature students recently had their Shakespeare studies brought to life, seeing stage and screen legend Ian McKellen in King Lear at the Chichester Festival Theatre.

This once in a lifetime opportunity was a great success with our students who commented on the production’s quality.

“English Literature at Andover College goes beyond the cover of a book and seeing this incredible production stretched our minds and gave us a better understanding of the play, appreciating the text in a whole new light.”

“Seeing Ian McKellen up close made the trip all the more incredible and reminded us of the power of the stage!”

English Literature lecturer and organiser of the trip, Carys Overfield said: “The enthusiasm of the students was a joy to see for me as a lecturer. The value that has been added to their studies as a result of this opportunity can’t be measured as it goes beyond what they will use in their exams – it’s an experience they’ll never forget!”

This trip is a great example of the strong Value Added government figures Andover College received for its A Level programmes. The figures – which measure the degree to which students not only fulfil, but achieve grades beyond their original potential – put the College in the top 5% in the country demonstrating our staff’s commitment to our learners.
