Andover College celebrates success of BTEC and Vocational students
While many students will be holding their breath until August, nervously awaiting GCSE and A-Levels, BTEC and vocational students at Andover College are already celebrating the successful completion of their qualifications, all set to either progress to university or start their professional career.
IT student Alice Williams always had an interest in both the physical and software orientated sides of computing. She developed her skills through a Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT (equivalent to three A-Levels) as the course allowed her to explore both aspects in depth and expand her knowledge in areas such as Game Development.
Commenting on her time at Andover she said: “The College has amazing facilities and staff who, from day one, have encouraged me in my studies helping me get the highest grades possible. Having so many dedicated computer rooms means that I always have a PC to work on, while the computer lab allowed me to experiment with networks and PCs. I love having regular check-ups with my personal tutor which means I always understand where I am on the course and how I am progressing towards my target grades.”
Alice achieved a Triple Distinction (equivalent to three A*s at A-Level) and is planning to go to the University of Sussex to study Computer Science. She credits the College for “providing me with the support and knowledge needed for higher education and the rest of my life.”
Vice Principal Martin Simmons said: “We are delighted with Alice’s results as she exemplifies the very high standards that can be achieved through a BTEC qualification which universities accept and value as equally as A-Levels.”
