Andover College celebrates another year of A-Level excellence

Andover College celebrates another year of A-Level excellence

Hear what Principal Tim Jackson had to say about another successful year of results at Andover College.

Huge celebrations are underway at Andover College with A-Level students once again breaking through the 99% ceiling in all subjects.  An impressive 99.3% of students passed the gold standard qualification which is significantly above the national pass rate of 98.1%.

The College achieved 100% pass rates in a staggering 34 out of 36 (94%) subject areas demonstrating excellence across the full range of subjects, but the challenging STEM subjects have proven particularly successful with Chemistry achieving 62% A*-B, Maths 52% A*-B and Physics 67% A*-B.  The College’s Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ Art and Design Department are celebrating their 100% A*-B in 3D Design, 67% A*-B in Fine Art, 57% A*-B in Photography and 50% A*-B in Graphics.

Straight A student Catherine Upfold is off to the University of Bath to study Chemistry having this year achieved A* AA in Physics, Further Maths (AS), and the Extended Project which she will add to the A*AA in Chemistry, Maths and Music she achieved last year. Commenting on her time at Andover College she said: “It’s been really supportive and friendly and I get the best out of myself in that kind of environment.”

University of Exeter (Russell Group) beckons for Daisy Nikoloska who will study English and Visual Culture there.  This morning she was delighted with AABB in English Language and Literature, the Extended Project in Poetry, Creative Writing and Religious Studies which she will add to the A* in Communications and Culture achieved last year. It is Andover College’s lecturers who made the difference to Daisy who said: “I really enjoyed all of my subjects and the way I’ve been taught – I had great lecturers.  The College is close to the town and close to the gym so really convenient.”

Brendan Harris attributes his success to the support he received while at the College which made his studies much easier.  Brendan is now off to the Russell Group’s University of Bristol with BBC grades in Psychology, Human Biology and History to study Anthropology.

A delighted Deputy Principal Martin Simmons said: “This is our largest A-Level cohort to date and once again the students and staff have delivered outstanding results.  One of our key strengths is the high standards of teaching and learning – the difference at Andover College though is that these excellent results are achieved in a student-centric environment – no high pressure hot house here! We have a proven record of helping students of all levels where each person gets to achieve their potential.”

Head of Faculty for 6th Form, Ben Stokes enjoyed celebrating with the students today and said: “We have a dynamic team of enthusiastic teachers who know the students individually and work to build self-belief and self-esteem as much as their theoretical and practical knowledge. This shows in the results; happy motivated students achieve naturally and we encourage our students to aim high.”

For those getting their GCSE results on 20th August the College will be open daily, 10.00am to 4.00pm for advice and late applications.  Open Evenings start on Tuesday 6 October 2015, 4.30pm to 6.30pm and Wednesday 7th October 2015, 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
