Geography

A level geography encourages you to apply geographical knowledge, theory and skills to the world around you. In turn this will enable you to develop a critical understanding of the world’s people, places and environments in the 21st century. You will develop both knowledge and understanding of contemporary geographical concepts together with transferable skills that will enable you to progress to higher education and a range of employment opportunities with these sought after skills

The focus of the course is to develop an enthusiasm for and competence in geography by using contemporary real-world contexts, from a range of specified spatial scales, and through engagement with and practical application of geographical skills and techniques in the field. This course draws on both physical and human geography, explores people-environment interactions and encourages development of fieldwork at the local level to enable you to pose enquiry questions.

We have a flourishing Study+ offer at Andover. For enrichment you could join the geography club where you can watch geographical documentaries and discuss the issues highlighted in them. You could join the college Green Group as a student representative to help influence the sustainability of the college. We also have regular speakers from university, take groups on trips to conduct both human and physical fieldwork, participate in local conservation projects, visit universities for taster days and, you will also have the opportunity to visit both Iceland and the Azores to help compliment your classroom learning.

Geography, English, and Politics A Level

The small class sizes were a really big attraction, as well as the high grades and results Andover has produced. I have really enjoyed the lively classroom discussions and will always remember the teachers and how friendly and approachable they are. The Careers department have also really helped me consider my future, offering support and access to resources. I would like to go to university to study international development or a course in a similar human geography field.
