Pride at Andover Campus

Throughout June, Sparsholt College Group (Including Andover College and University Centre Sparsholt) have celebrated lesbian, gay, bi, trans, non-binary and queer (LGBTQ+) culture and experiences with a series of activities and events ending with the Pride event at Andover Campus.

Pride Month represents an opportunity for the Sparsholt College Group community to reflect on all the ways they can contribute to creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for all LGBTQ+ students and employees.

The event was a remarkable success representing the different subject areas taught at Andover College including Textiles, Performing Arts, Music, History, English, The Library & Uniformed Protective Services all with a different creative theme and message. An award was given to the Performing Arts teams for their efforts in creating an amazing atmosphere and for the entertainment they provided throughout the event.

The day also included face painting, crafting, an obstacle course, a textile catwalk, dance and singing performances as well as a performance from a student band, ice cream from the lovely Ice Queen Van, pizza kindly gifted from Pizza Hut, carnival games and a poetry competition. There were stalls from almost all areas incorporating a LGBTQ+ spin on their individual subject.

Liz Wilson, Assistant Principal Student Experience, said: “We had such fun celebrating our prove event at Andover College. For many young people, further and higher education is often the first place where they can be themselves and we are committed to promoting inclusion and equality among our students, staff and the wider SCG community.”
