Andover College calls on young artists in creative community project

Andover College recently partnered with The Roche Court Educational Trust and Test Valley Arts Society to create the community art project, ‘Casting Connections’ for Year 9 Art students at Winton Community Academy. This exciting and challenging project gave learners the opportunity to create a range of professional work for a final exhibition, which was opened to the public this December in the new gallery space at Andover College.

The ‘Casting Connections’ project took place over three months. It included a trip to the New Art Centre, Roche Court Sculpture Park to make observational drawings and a series of workshops with Andover College expert art lecturers, to develop the initial work into prints and 3D casts made from plaster and concrete.

Art & Design Lecturer from Andover College, Carlie Forsyth said: “When The Roche Court Educational Trust reached out to us about joint workshops and exhibition, we were thrilled. This project gave us the platform to showcase to young learners the importance of continuing with creative subjects and the opportunities available through our vast range of facilities.”

Zoe Crockford, Art teacher at Winton Community Academy explained how the project benefited students’ understanding of the Arts, saying: “This opportunity gave students a taste of college education through sophisticated working and learning. It has been rewarding to see so many young learners engaged and proud of their artistic achievements.”
