Britax and Andover Fire Station provide reality check for Andover College students
Local businesses and Emergency Services are playing their part in helping Andover College students prepare for a successful future. Business Studies and Health and Social Care students spent informative sessions at the Fire Station and Britax (global manufacturer of childcare products including car seats and pushchairs) recently seeing how the academic aspects of their studies are applied in a service and business context.
First and second year A Level Business students were given an in-depth tour of the Britax facility which is based in Andover. Hostedby HR Manager Amanda Williams they were given an insight into key business fundamentals such as Quality, Production, Finance, HR and Logistics.
Business Lecturer Hannah Murphy said: “A behind the scenes look at a successful global business is invaluable to these students. We teach the all-important theory but seeing how their lessons translate into a real business context adds an extra, highly useful dimension to their learning.”
For a Public Service perspective, Andover Fire Service gave Health and Social Care students a behind the scenes look at the Station based in London Road. They were surprised to learn that running a busy station goes beyond responding to emergencies and requires a significant amount of business know-how too from Risk Assessments, Health and Safety and Recruitment.
Andover College offers a range of Business courses including AS, A level and BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 (equivalent to three A Levels) Diplomas.
