Andover students put on a stellar performance of Aladdin for the 2016 Christmas Pantomime
Andover College’s sell out Christmas Pantomime showcased another multi-discipline masterpiece at The Lights Theatre. Months of dedication and hard work from Andover College students demonstrated exactly why the Creative and Performing Arts team are rated Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ whilst spreading oodles of Christmas cheer.
The annual pantomime is not only a highpoint on the Performing Arts calendar, it is a College-wide opportunity where students from performing and musical courses work collaboratively with those on creative courses. Alongside weeks of extensive rehearsals across Drama, Dance and Music, the Hair and Media Makeup students designed and applied elaborate looks to identify each character, whilst set design, lights and sound were expertly overseen by Stage Management students.
Head of Performing Arts, Gary Rake described Aladdin as a great success, saying:
“The audience’s feedback on this year’s Pantomime has been terrific this year, as many in attendance commented on the professional standard of the production which is fantastic news for all the departments involved. At Andover College, everyone supports one another and the Christmas Pantomime clearly embodies these continuing team efforts and ultimately, the College ethos.”
Andover College’s strong, ongoing relationship with local theatre, The Lights, allows the large-scale production with a cast of over 55 people plus a live student band to take place each year, so that parents, local people and fellow students can enjoy a show filled with laughter, spectacular costumes and ‘he’s behind yous’.
