Andover College’s Health and Social Care students gain insight into the Social Services
Andover College’s Health and Social Care students had the pleasure of talking to Anthony, Social Services worker and two university students all about Social Services and the safeguarding of children and young people.
Anthony, who works within Wiltshire Social Services, found time in his busy schedule to talk to the students about the role of a social worker and how they work with other agencies in the safeguarding of children and young people. Anthony brought along two university students, who are currently studying their Master’s Degree in social work, to talk to the students about university life.
The two university students were Kelly who is an ex Andover College student and is currently in her first year of completing her Master’s Degree and Lilly who is in her third and final year. Both are working within Wiltshire Social Services as part of their year placement
Lecturer Wendy Allen said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to hear first-hand about the experiences of being a social worker and the importance of their role.”
Wendy continued:” Both Kelly and Lilly were very honest about university life and the course they are currently taking. It was very useful for the students to be able to ask questions and gain tips on what to expect in their preliminary university interview. The information given to our students is invaluable and I am very grateful to Anthony, Kelly and Lilly in taking time out of their busy schedules to speak with the students.”
At Andover College we try our hardest to get as many guest speakers in as possible as we believe they give our students invaluable knowledge while sharing their experiences. Find out more about Andover College at our next open day.
