Andover College Hairdressing students hunger for success
Andover College Level 3 Hairdressing students showcased their creativity and skills at their 2016 End of Year Competition and Show. With the themes of ‘Bridal’ and ‘Hunger Games’ they embraced both the traditional and the futuristic in their design and ideas.
Before any hair could be touched, the competition required the students to produce a mood board detailing their ideas and inspiration with regard to colours and texture. Themes and designs were researched from which a range of creative hair images were produced. On the day the judges were looking for the demonstration of a range of techniques and skills such as styling, dressing, colouring, creating patterns, using hair pieces and putting hair up.
Sarah Saunders took title honours for her Hunger Games themed design which included the use of hair pieces and creating patterns within the hair. Those with nuptials pending need look no further than Jade Carter-Heatley whose up-do for the Bridal theme impressed the judges with its elegance.
Commenting on the high standards of creativity and styling Judge Michael Cape from Thomas Roskilly said: “It was a really enjoyable experience seeing all the students work which was of a very high standard and very creative”.
Having nearly completed the year the students will be fully qualified and ready to progress to employment, starting their professional careers as hairdressers.
The Level 3 (equivalent to three A Levels) Hairdressing Diploma provides students with the creative skills needed to work confidently in a hairdressing salon, skills covered include restyle cutting, hair extensions, free hand colouring and colour correction to demonstrating techniques to others.
