Andover College Celebrate National Theatre Connections Success
Sparsholt College Groups Andover Campus are delighted to announce the success of a recent application for Connections 2024; the National Theatre’s nationwide youth theatre festival.
This fantastic opportunity offers first year UAL Performing Arts students the chance to work on one of ten plays written by leading writers and facilitated by a leading director. Whilst students get to work bringing the play to life, Connections enrich the student’s curriculum further with additional features such as:
- Access to skills workshops
- Time with the writer
- The chance to perform a maximum of 5 times at the College’s home venue, 1803 theatre.
- Feedback and development notes from a Connections mentor director
Furthering their mission to support local businesses and organisations Andover College will be working with both the National Theatre and Wiltshire Creative to produce one of the contemporary plays written with young performers in mind.
Stacy Hopkins, Performing Arts lecturer, who was behind the application and now the fundraising for the colleges forthcoming performances said:
“As Andover College Performing Arts Company, we have been selected to participate in The National Theatre Connections 2024 which is a huge opportunity for both myself and the students! This will give these young actors to work with material from The National Theatre and with local creatives. The project has the potential to be pricey (with a £500 fee before we’ve even started) We would love to be able to raise enough money to cover the fee and build up some funds to pay for costume, set, props and other elements to make this a really professional production that the students can be proud of and that also may give us a chance of performing at The National Theatre! If you feel that you are able to help, even in a small way, the College and I would be extremely grateful!”
With many details still to be confirmed, Andover college have blocked out March 2024 in their calendars and excitedly await the all-important list of plays.
