Sociology enables us to study human society. The content of sociology allows for an understanding of many different cultures and identities. The subject provides a strong critical understanding of the world around us and an analysis of many different perspectives of this. You will analyse how we go about acquiring our culture, the issue of social control and the social inequality in contemporary society.

You will study the following units: Culture, identity and socialisation, Family and relationships, Social inequalities and research methods, Globalisation and the digital social world and Religion and society.
Exams and classroom work
This subject has a number of possible career paths including teaching, law, journalism, politics, media, youth, religious orders, counselling and social work.
You may go on field trips or excursions and we also invite external speakers in from time to time to discuss themes relevant to the syllabus. There also trips to London and other locations to explore cultural hybridity and diversity
You will be taught in our Andover Sixth building and will have access to many different facilities, including: 2 study centres, a Library, A canteen and the Careers Hub.
