There is a sizeable presence of the Military Services within the surrounding area and for many it presents a unique opportunity to enjoy a highly successful, varied and rewarding career in the Army, RAF or Navy.

This course is designed to help learners prepare for the transition in to one of these services. It seeks to develop the skills and attributes that are highly sought after making sure the learner is fully prepared for the demands of the selection tests.

We are excited to announce as part of our Uniformed Services Programme, we now offer the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) programme. We have formed a partnership with Winchester College (Army Division), so their students can gain invaluable experience about military life, before they go onto their chosen service.

As part of the course you will be a member of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), where you will learn about the qualities of responsibility, self-reliance, resourcefulness and a sense of service to the community. Activities include drill, skill at arms, shooting, fieldcraft and first aid and up to 40% of a cadet’s time is spent on adventurous training activities.

Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English or a Level 2 BTEC Diploma at Merit, or equivalent.

Depending on the size of the qualification you opt for, the qualifications covers an extensive range of units including:

  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Land-based skills
  • Water-based skills
  • Navigation
  • Impact of War on Society
  • Government Policies and the impact on the Services
  • Physical Fitness and Preparation

Learners will be set a range of tasks to complete for each unit so that they can develop a portfolio of work. To help learners develop essential skills, they will be expected to take part in practical activities throughout the duration of the course.

The qualification will allow progression on to further areas of study and provide informed and prepared potential recruits for the military services.

The department enjoys excellent links with the Military Services including trips to undertake selection processes and expeditions to test endurance, teamwork and leadership skills. Learners will also have access to a range of serving personnel to help understand the vast range of careers available to them and receive bespoke advice and guidance.

Learners will have access to an extensive range of facilities across both of our campuses (Andover and Sparsholt) designed to support the development of leadership and teamwork skills.
