This course is a combination of practical and theoretical work including individual and group performances. You will explore music from a wide range of styles and learn the history of popular music from the 1950’s to the present day.

You will study a range of music styles and learn new performance skills on the course. Our lecturing staff are experienced performers including vocal, guitar, world music, brass and keyboard skills. Our Music Academy stands in its own grounds and has a range of fully equipped practice rooms along with a large recital room, a study centre and teaching spaces. Theory classes will be held in a new high spec music technology room. The recording studio enables you to make your own tracks on professional equipment.
This course is certificated at the end of the second academic year, and your final grade is based on work across both years

Foundation or Honours degree in music or related subjects. Employment within the music industry including song writing, theatre/TV work or performance opportunities solo or in bands.
There are expectations throughout the year that you perform organised gigs and shows. All of these performances will be assessed as part of the course. Trips include visits to higher education institutions to experience Level 4/5 work.
To help with your studies we have a multimedia suite featuring a variety of music/media-related software packages and a professional theatre for drama and music productions. There are also opportunities to collaborate with local music venues when planning and organising events.
