A Level Mathematics is about working with patterns and structures found in science and technology. From computers and space exploration to body scanners and medicine, understanding these patterns help explain and control natural happenings and situations. 

Six GCSEs at grade 9–4, including a grade 7 in Maths or above. 

 

In both A Level years, you will study Pure and Applied Mathematics. 

 

Pure Maths includes:  

  • Algebra 
  • Trigonometry 
  • Coordinate geometry 
  • Calculus 
  • Numerical methods

Applied Maths provides a choice between:  

  • Mechanics: forces, energy, motion, kinematics, projectiles, and mathematical modelling 
  • Statistics: probability, data handling, probability distributions, correlation and regression and hypothesis testing. 

 

Three exam papers, each two hours long at the end of the second year. Scientific calculators are allowed for all papers. 

 

This course can help you to progress into a wide variety of careers including accountancy, aerospace, biosciences, engineering and exploration geophysics. 

 

Maths Inspiration trip in the Autumn term; UK Senior Team Challenge as well as the individual challenge. 

 

You will be taught in our Andover Sixth building and will have access to many different facilities, including: 2 study centres, a Library, A canteen and the Careers Hub.
