English Functional Skills C&G – Level 2
What will I learn?
This one year course develops your literacy skills to a level that is widely recognized by employers as well as providing an opportunity to progress on to further study at college.
The course is structured in to three different areas – Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening. Within each of these sections, you will explore a range of topics:
Reading – analysis of how a writer achieves an effect, identifying devices and colloquial terms, comparing texts, their purpose and how the writer gets the point across
Writing – sophisticated use of language and punctuation, writing, in detail, a wide variety of written documents
Speaking & Listening – participating in a formal group discussion as well as a persuasive presentation

Enrolment based on initial assessment to ensure you are enrolled on the correct level qualification

Note: for all courses with a start date on or after 1/8/25, the following local authority areas are being added to the list above:

Will be unable to apply for fee remission and may be subject to higher course fees than those published.

Free if you don’t already have GCSE A*-C or grade 4 or higher in the subject

All fee remission is subject to availability of Government funding at the start date of a course and eligibility criteria.

Please Note: at this current time, even though it may be detailed above, we are unable to confirm fee remission for courses with a start date on or after 1/8/25. Due to funding restrictions this course is not available to existing full time Sparsholt College/Andover College students aged 16, 17 or 18 (or 19-24 with an EHCP) on the 31/8 in the year they started/start their course.
