Core Mathematics was developed to enable the study of mathematical topics in practical, real-life contexts. It can be studied alongside other subjects such as business, accountancy, psychology, science, arts, sport and media.

There are two written exams in May, of 1 hour 30 minutes each. Both papers are of equal weight with a pre-release data sheet before the exam. Scientific calculators are allowed for both papers.
Core Maths is a course that universities have come out in strong support of. Even subjects like history now recognise the importance of statistics and so a Core Maths qualification will help you hit the ground running at university. You will gain the same number of UCAS point awarded as an AS level subject.
Employers from all different sectors are also firmly behind the Core Maths qualification. Many roles in today’s workplace require high levels of budget management and problem – solving skills; Core Maths will be a useful tool in equipping you with these skills.
