Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety. They will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to advise and consult, provide a range of cutting and barbering services specifically for men’s hair, which includes shaving and creating facial hair shapes.

This course is a highly practical programme underpinning theoretical knowledge required for you to work safely in the salon as a junior barber.

Grade 9 – 4 in GCSE English Language or Literature and Maths


You will cover the following units:

  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Cut men’s hair using basic techniques
  • Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
  • Dry and finish men’s hair
  • Create basic outlines and detailing in hair


Practical and Online exams


The course can lead you into a career in a commercial barber shops or gents salon as well as other places such as; HM Prison Service, Cruise Liners and hospitals/ care homes. We advise to complete the level 3 in Barbering course afterwards.

You will be taught in our dedicated Barbering Salon and have access to the college’s Dispensary and Theory Room.
