The Applied Law qualification will provide the opportunity for learners to showcase their skills and apply their knowledge in an appropriate, work-related context, in the study of Law.  The course provides an introduction to the legal sector and key aspects of law to develop both knowledge and application.  Learners will be able to present their ideas in a range of ways including report writing, presentations and leaflets. 

Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English Language

 

You will have an introduction to the English legal system as well as the analysis and evaluation of substantive areas of law.  

  • Criminal Law: Basic elements of a crime, non-fatal offences, homicide offences, property offences and general defences 
  • Civil Law: Negligence and the court system including legal personnel 
  • Family Law: Marriage, civil partnership, nullity, divorce, financial orders, orders for children

Units Covered:  

Year One – BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Applied Law (equivalent to an AS Level)  

Unit 1: Dispute Solving in Civil Law (External Assessment)  

Unit 2: Investigating Aspects of Criminal Law and the Legal System (Internal Assessment)  

Year Two – BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Law (equivalent to an A-Level)  

Unit 3: Applying the Law (External Assessment)  

Unit 4: Aspects of Family Law (Internal Assessment)  

To succeed in this course you will need to be hard-working, dedicated to study, have strong writing skills and an ability to succeed in assessments. You will also be expected to work in your own time, in addition to class time, in order to achieve the highest grades. 

 

Year 1 will be assessed with one External Assessment (exam) and one Internal Assessment (coursework)  

Year 2 will be assessed with one External Assessment (exam) and one Internal Assessment (coursework) 

 

Applied Law is designed to develop skills for the further study of law or law related courses or towards an apprenticeship in the legal sector. The qualification can lead to many different career paths including those in the legal profession, Government, civil service, probation service and police force, among many others. 

 

You will have the opportunity to go on a number of field trips and excursions including: Houses of Parliament and Supreme Court

 

You will be taught in our Andover Sixth building and will have access to many different facilities, including: 2 study centres, a Library, A canteen and the Careers Hub.
