This Health & Social Care Course is the equivalent to “2” A Levels. It teaches you the skills and knowledge needed to progress into a career in health and social care, or to study at University. Taken alongside 1 other subject, you will study a range of subjects including Human Lifespan and Development, Enquiries into research, Person-centred care and an opportunity to do an industry work placement in year 2. 

All lecturers have a professional background in the health and social care sector, such as social work and the NHS, still current in practice.

5 GCSE`s at grade 9-4, including English Language

 

Year One- This year leads towards a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in HSC (equivalent to 1 “A” Level)

Units:

  • Human Lifespan Development (Exam)
  • Meeting individual care and support needs (Coursework)

Year Two– This year leads towards a BTEC National Diploma in HSC (equivalent to 2 “A” Levels)

Units:

  • Working in Health & Social Care (Exam)
  • Work Experience in Health & Social Care

Each year comprises of coursework and an external assessment. 

 

Depending on what other subjects are studied alongside the National Diploma in health & social care a range of Higher Education courses are available, including social work, youth work, nursing/midwifery, teaching, psychology, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

 

Through the year guest speakers provide workshops and there are off-site visits to local care providers to give you an insight into a variety of different Health and Social Care settings, Universities and Apprenticeship events. 

 

You will be taught in our professions building, next to our nursing wards, with access to many different facilities, including 2 study centres, a restaurant, a careers hub and student common room.
