Five GCSEs at grade 9–4, including English and Maths and be at a level on your instrument, that you are comfortable performing in front of others
The Music Department prepares students for life both as an artist and behind the scenes, as you study live performance, songwriting, sound engineering, production and the curation/promotion of live events. Our new studio and rehearsal rooms are filled with pro‑level equipment and will be your base as you hone your craft through a series of practical projects.
During your two years here, you will be playing live in local venues, recording and releasing your own songs, working externally as a sound engineer and learning about the ‘business’ side of the industry. Each year will end with a major project that you will design and deliver. Previous students have put on their own festival, recorded and released their own singles and EPs, produced a band, and so much more.

Coursework and final assessment.
This course can lead to degree level study, internships/employment within the industry, or life as a self-employed artist/performer. In addition to this, those who take every opportunity presented on the course will have the skills required to work freelance as a sound engineer, technician or session musician.
There are expectations throughout the year that you perform organised gigs and shows. All of these performances will be assessed as part of the course. Trips include visits to higher education institutions to experience Level 4/5 work.
To help with your studies we have a multimedia suite featuring a variety of music/media-related software packages and a professional theatre for drama and music productions. There are also opportunities to collaborate with local music venues when planning and organising events.
