This course is designed for those who love theatre and want to take an active role in bringing creative ideas to life. You will get opportunities in lighting, sound, props, set and the back stage operations required for live performance. 

We have fully trained teaching staff with a range of experience within the production arts and an experienced and fully qualified theatre technician. You will also have access to our fully rigged 100 seat studio theatre for vocational training and technical operations during performances. 

Success on this course relies on commitment and communication. Responsibilities will include attending production meetings and meeting deadlines. You may be required to liaise with companies for sponsorship or funding, booking venues and equipment. You will be required to publicise shows and create budgets. 

Five GCSEs at grade 9–4, including English. Merit in a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in a related subject will be considered

 The first year of the course leads to a BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Production Arts (Stage Management) (equivalent to an AS Level). 

The second year of the course leads to a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Production Arts (Stage Management) (equivalent to an A Level).  

There are no external examinations and you will be assessed through a series of assignment briefs and projects carried out throughout the year. It is important for you to be able to manage your time effectively in order to submit your work by the deadlines set.

Coursework and final assessment 

 

Foundation Degrees or BA (Hons) or BSc (Hons) Degree in Arts Administration, Stage Management, Technical Theatre or Drama School. Employment in Arts Administration, Stage Management, Technical Theatre, Drama School or Teaching, West End, Cruise Ships .  

 

Theatre trips have included Warhorse, Wicked, Back Stage tour of the National Theatre and Disneyland Paris. 

This is a very practical course which works to create a realistic experience of working within a range of production scenarios; from our in-house theatre to professional theatre spaces and Theatre in Education touring productions.  

Study trips include backstage tours at large scale London theatres such as The National Theatre and performances of a variety of live theatre; from large scale West End productions to small scale and touring repertory theatre. 

This course can run alongside a range of BTEC and A Level courses, and works well alongside performance based courses such as Performing Arts and Dance.
