The qualification will provide the opportunity for learners to pursue a further interest in Law enabling a development of both knowledge and application of the legal system.  The A-Level course not only provides an awareness of law in UK but also a wider understanding of law in both a European and global context.  This takes into consideration the changing nature of law and its interaction with morality, justice, society and technology. 

Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including a grade 5 in English Language or above.

 

You will have an introduction to the English legal system as well as the analysis and evaluation of substantive areas of law.  

  • Criminal Law: Basic elements of a crime, non-fatal offences, homicide offences and general defences
  • Tort Law: Negligence, nuisance, occupiers liability, and vicarious liability
  • Human Rights Law: The European Convention on Human Rights and the history of human rights development
  • Nature of Law: The relationship between law and morals, justice, society and technology

Units covered:  

Paper 1: The Legal System and Criminal Law  

Paper 2: Law Making and the Law of Tort  

Paper 3: The Nature of Law and Human Rights Law 

 

100% examination 

 

A Level Law is designed to develop skills for the further study of law or law related courses. The qualification can lead to many different career paths including those in the legal profession, Government, civil service, probation service and police force, among many others. 

 

You will have the opportunity to go on a number of field trips and excursions including: Houses of Parliament and Supreme Court 

 

You will be taught in our Andover Sixth building and will have access to many different facilities, including: 2 study centres, a Library, A canteen and the Careers Hub.
