results day 2023

Thursday 17 August 2023

For Results Day 2023, we would like to invite all second year A Level and Level 3 BTEC students, to join us on Thursday 17 August to collect your results.

You will need to bring your Student ID with you to be able to collect your results. If you are unable to collect them in person by 2.30pm they will be posted to you, first class on the same day. You do not have to attend Results Day to receive your results.

Class of 2023

We would like to take the time to say that we are so proud of all you have achieved during your time with us at Andover College, Results Day is the start of many new beginnings and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for you. We want you to know we are still here to support you with any queries or questions about your next steps once results have arrived.

Heading to University?

We all know this is what you will do first thing but check UCAS track! Universities will confirm your place on track from around 8am on 18 August.

When you log into Track you will be able to see whether your place has been confirmed or not. Be mindful of the fact that many students will also be doing this and the website may run slowly. Once the university has updated track, your page will say one of the following:

  • Unconditional - Your place on the course has been confirmed.
  • Unsuccessful – You have not been accepted by your choice. You’re now eligible for Clearing
  • UCC – You don’t have the grades for your offer, however, the university has offered a similar course which requires lowers grades.

Your grades will not be shown in track.

First of all, Celebrate!

Your offer will change to unconditional on UCAS and your UCAS confirmation letter AS12 will be sent out to you.

Don’t panic, there are still many good options open to you.

If you have only just missed the grades you needed then you can ring the university and talk about your options.

Clearing

If your application was unsuccessful, you will now be eligible for clearing. Clearing is a service that allows universities to fill up courses and students without offers are given another chance to go on to higher education. There will be a section on the UCAS website which till take you through the clearing process.

Please speak to our Head of Careers and teaching staff as they will be able to you see what options are available and what you can do next.

Clearing Plus

If you find yourself in Clearing this year, UCAS will personally match you to courses you may be interested in, using what they know about you from your application, and what universities and colleges are looking for in a student.

If you’re unplaced or have started a new application, a button will appear in Track – ‘My matches’. This will take you to your top 50 course matches. You’ll then be able to tell universities and colleges you’re ‘interested’ in their courses. If they still have vacancies and you meet their entry requirements, they may call you.

Don’t worry, if you want to apply for something different you can still find courses available in Clearing using our search tool.

This week, you’ll get your results. To get to this point, you have shown real dedication to your studies and resilience in sitting your formal exams and assessments after the disruption of the pandemic. This will stand you in good stead whatever choices you make about your next steps, whether that be an undergraduate course, apprenticeship, or employment.

We know you might have questions about results day, confirming offers and Clearing. Like, what are your options on results day? What happens if you change your mind about your choices?

Here are a few things we’d like you to remember:

  • This year we have returned to summer exams, with all students being assessed on the same basis. Your grade will be determined solely on the basis of your work.
  • Whatever your results, you can be confident that it’s no harder or easier to achieve a particular grade no matter which exam board’s specification you took. When marking and grading your work, examiners do not know your name, which school or college you attended, or where in the country you live. Ofqual makes sure that the rules are the same for everyone.
  • Don’t worry if you don’t get your predicted grades. This happens very often. In 2019 only 21% of accepted applicants achieved or exceeded their predicted grades, but 86% of UK 18-year-olds applying to UCAS took up an HE place.
  • Universities understood what grades will look like overall this year and took this into account when making offers. It’s not meaningful to compare this year’s results to those in 2021, because it was a different form of assessment.
  • In 2019, when exams last went ahead, around three quarters of UK 18-year-old applicants were placed at their first choice. Come results day this year, UCAS again expects most students will secure their place at their first choice.
  • You have lots of choice for your next step, whether it’s an undergraduate degree or an apprenticeship. There are more 18-year-olds in the population this year and more applying to higher education too, but there are still lots of places in higher education and apprenticeships at top employers available. Over 90 per cent of this year’s applicants are happy with the offers they’ve got. In fact, nearly 300,000 UK 18-year-olds are holding a firm offer, up 7,000 on last year and the highest on record – meaning more applicants are in a prime position to secure a preferred course than ever before.
  • University admission isn’t always just about grades. When deciding whether to make an offer or accept a student, universities generally look at the full range of information within the UCAS application, including the personal statement and reference.
  • If you don’t get the grades for your first choice, you may still be accepted by your university of choice, for example, if you are a grade lower than your offer.
  • If you don’t get your first or insurance choices, there will be lots of choice through Clearing with around 30,000 courses available across a broad range of universities and colleges as well as apprenticeships with employers. UCAS is here to support you with your choices through Clearing. You might find it helpful to think in advance of results day about what you might do if you don’t get the results you were hoping for, do better than you expected, or change your mind about what you want to do. You can put yourself in the strongest possible position by thinking ahead and putting together a Plan B.
