Health & Social Care Level 3 Extended Diploma
Future Plans: Study Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Reading
Secondary School: John Hanson Community School
“I chose to study this course because I was interested in many of the units within it including psychology, communication and anatomy and physiology. I thought that it would be an interesting course that would not only improve my knowledge regarding health and social care but also help me to develop as a person improving my ability to show empathy and dignity towards others.
I have enjoyed the social aspect of my time at Andover College, within my class there was only a small group of students meaning we made friends quickly and had similar interests making it easy to form friendships.
I have also enjoyed forming relationships with my lecturers; they have helped me to develop as a person by being supportive and encouraging alongside developing my knowledge though their teaching where they used a variety of assessment styles including role play, presentations and assignments.
I have a place at the University of Reading to study Speech and Language therapy for 4 years. At the end of my course I then hope to be a qualified speech and language therapist, where I will be able to work with a variety of service users.
My course at college has given me the skills to study and research in a self-directed manner; this will help me at university where a large proportion of my study will be conducted independently.
As a part of my college course I carried out a placement in a primary school this taught me how to work in a professional manner within the workplace; giving me valuable skills for the future.
I would recommend this course to anyone who is considering a career within health and social care; I have found the units to be diverse, challenging and interesting.”
