Previous school: The Westgate School

Future plans: Studying Korean Language at Sheffield University

“The Extended Project Qualification allowed me to independently study Korean Language, a niche subject which I am passionate about. One of my greatest achievements from studying at Andover College is understanding myself more through the means of self study. However, this is not without the tremendous support of Andover College’s tutors, who tailor advice to every individual’s needs.

Extra curriculum trips make the courses interactive and interesting and the environment when at Andover College is always a happy and peaceful one. The student voice and involvement within the College is particularly outstanding as a student council, ambassadors and a governor are selected to actively help the College evolve and grow. As the current Student Governor, I believe Andover College builds the perfect foundation for the future, allowing both academic and social growth for life after college.”

Future plans: Offered a London-based apprenticeship to become a qualified chartered accountant

“Andover College has helped me mature into the young adult I am today by helping me to plan my future career, learn essential life skills and meet new friends.

Up until I came to the College, I was still unsure what I wanted to do as a profession. I chose my three A Levels in Mathematics, Business Studies and Geography as I felt these three choices offered lots of different opportunities for me to explore. Since then, I have been offered an apprenticeship for an accounting firm in London called Crowe Clark Whitehill, where I hope to continue working until I am a qualified chartered accountant. The College has prepared me for my accounting apprenticeship by helping me master interview skills as well as achieving a good set of A Levels across all of my chosen subjects.”

“The small size of Andover College allows for very personal learning with lots of opportunities for one-to-one tutorials with the lecturers, who take the time to accommodate individual needs.

Half way through my AS year when I was thinking about applying to University, I realised that in hindsight I should have taken another A Level in Further Mathematics to help me get on to the degree course I wanted. My Maths lecturer worked alongside the Further Maths lecturer to ensure that I got the academic support I needed to take the exams at the end of the year. My biggest achievement then would have to be receiving an A in my AS Further Mathematics exams!”

“My main highlight so far from studying at Andover College is making friends as well as having a good relationship with the lecturers. Everyone is so kind and the teachers are always striving to ensure that we achieve. However despite this, I’ve found that it’s not always all serious – we can have a laugh with the lecturers too which is very important because it creates a great learning environment. I am surprised at how much my knowledge and abilities have evolved since starting college and I like the fact that 95% of the time, you will always have an enjoyable day whilst learning.

If you’re into music and want to give yourself more options than just performing, music technology is perfect because it gives you an insight in to how things work and how music is made. All in all, it’s extremely interesting and very enjoyable!”
