In our Technology and Future Skills Centre you will learn how to carry out basic brick and block laying skills and construct straightforward brick/block walls. In Construction Skills (Bricklaying) you will also learn about the importance of Health and Safety. The course is designed to prepare you for a career in construction so you will need to show you are a good team player and be flexible to carry out other duties when required. You will need to have an interest in construction and be able to cope with the physical requirements of working in this industry.

GCSEs at grade 3–2, plus a favourable report from school.

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries 
  • Introduction to Construction  
  • Setting out and laying Paths/patio (gravel, slabs & block paving) 
  • Mixing materials 
  • Construct block walling 
  • Construct brick walling 
  • Construct cavity walling 

 

Coursework and final assessment. 

 

Progression on to our Level 2 course

Level 2 Apprenticeships in Trowel Occupations or straight into employment. 

 

 

 

Our new £3.9 million Technology & Future Skills Centre opened in September 2016. The modern two storey building provides the best teaching and workshop space for our Bricklaying, Motor Vehicle and Electrical and Carpentry courses.
