Due to the growing popularity of Forensics and Criminology Andover College are introducing new for 2021 the level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Forensic and Criminal Investigation (equivalent to two Alevels) to be studied alongside one other Alevel/BTEC Certificate subject. 

The course provides the scientific knowledge and practical scientific skills that underpins forensic studies as well as the application of Psychology and the understanding of the criminal justice system by studying criminal investigations from the crime scene through to the trial process.  

Forensic and Criminal Investigation is ideally suited to students who are interested in pursuing a career in the criminal justice system, for example forensic science, the police force, forensic psychology and probation.  

Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including Maths, Science and English. BTEC Level 2 qualifications considered in subject related courses.

 

There are 6 mandatory units: 

  • Principles and Applications of Science 
  • Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques 
  • Science Investigation Skills 
  • Forensic Investigation Procedures in Practice  
  • Applications of Criminology  
  • Criminal Investigation Procedures in Practice 

and 2 optional units that can include: 

  • Applications of Criminal and Forensic Psychology  
  • Physiology of Human Body Systems 
  • Environmental Forensics  
  • Forensic Photography  
  • Forensic Genetics  
  • Forensic Anthropology and Archaeology  
  • Practical Chemical Analysis 

 

The course is assessed through a combination of coursework and  external assessments 

 

This two-year course generates the same UCAS tariff points as two  A-levels. 

Studied alongside another level 3 subject can provide entry into Higher Education. Bsc (Hons) Forensic Studies, BA (Hons) Criminology, BSc (Hons) Criminology and Psychology and LLB (Hons) Law 

 

There are a range of trips and guest speakers to show the range of careers in the criminal justice system.  Trips include:  

  • The Supreme Court 
  • Winchester Crown Court 
  • The Science Museum  

 

You will have access to a suite of superbly equipped laboratory facilities divided between physics, biology, chemistry and environmental science.  

You have access to well-equipped laboratories which have been recently modernised and been much admired as a great practical learning space as well as support from our science technicians.
