This Criminology course introduces you to the different types of crime and possible explanations as to why some people commit crime including biological, psychological and sociological theories. You will also examine the role of the criminal justice system and how it works to both punish offenders but also, to support their rehabilitation.


Five GCSEs at grade 9-3, including English Language


The course comprises of two units 

Unit 1: Aspects of Crime 

Key topics include: 

  • Different types of crime 
  • Causes of crime 
  • Sources of crime data  

Unit 2: Criminal Justice System, Crime and Social Groups  

Key topics include:  

  • The structure of the criminal justice system 
  • Crime and the media 
  • The relationship between crime and gender, ethnicity, social class and age.  


By the end of the course you will build a portfolio of work to demonstrate your understanding of the different topics.  This portfolio will include a range of assessment methods such as assignments, leaflets, and PowerPoint presentations 


This course provides opportunities to continue studying in further education at Level 3 including Criminology 

You will have the opportunity to go on a number of field trips and excursions including: Houses of Parliament and Supreme Court


You will be taught in our Andover Sixth building and will have access to many different facilities, including: 2 study centres, a Library, A canteen and the Careers Hub.
