Snow White showcases Andover College Creative and Performing Arts students
Snow White and her band of seven merryl friends sold-out the Lights Theatre last week with performances which showcased Andover College’s Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ Creative and Performing Arts Department.
A true collaboration between staff and students, weeks of dance, drama, voice and music rehearsals delivered performances which had one audience member commenting: “From start to finish this performance really entertained and interacted with the audience. With lots of laughs, professional acting and singing, Snow White was a perfect demonstration of the level of talent at the College. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the show.”
Being a College-wide production all aspects of the show were created and delivered in-house. Stage Management students devised props, built and painted sets and on the night managed the lights, sound and pushed the button on the pyrotechnics to deliver the bangs. Media Hair and Make-up students deployed their specialist skills to create the characters which were professionally acted by Performing Arts students and live music was provided courtesy of music students.
Head of Performing Arts Gary Rake said: “I am so proud of the success of Snow White this year. The students really do run the show, taking responsibility for stage management, theatrical hair and makeup, acting, singing, dancing, creating the programmes and playing in the band. This was also an opportunity for the College to make contact with our community, with many of the audience people who just wanted to come and see the show for what it was, a festive celebration, such as the local Cub and Beaver group who managed to fill the theatre with laughter and “he’s behind you’s.”
