Go Beyond at Andover College

Hot on the heels of excellent A Level result and Ofsted inspection, Andover College is opening its doors for the first of this academic year’s schedule of open evenings. Year 10s and 11s getting ready to make their choices next year are encouraged to come along, tour the facilities, meet lecturers and speak to students studying at the College on either Tuesday 7 October 2014, 6.00pm to 8.30pm or Wednesday 8 October 2014, 5.00pm to 7.30pm.

Former student Amber Newton who achieved A* and A’s in her A Levels this August said: “I have enjoyed an excellent two years of brilliant teaching at Andover College. The lecturers exude enthusiasm which is reflected in the College’s overall results. I received one-to-one commitment and was supported and encouraged in a secure and safe environment. I would give Andover College ten out of ten.”

The College is renowned for delivering quality teaching, caring support and guidance in an environment distinctly different to other colleges. There is a personal approach at Andover which is proving a winning formula in producing confident students, great results and high levels of achievement.

Top Physics student Richard Daniel has gone off to Nottingham University to study Theoretical Physics. Of his time at Andover he said: “The College provided more one-on-one, with the ability to communicate and talk to the lectures confidentially. The atmosphere is always very positive throughout the College and the lectures all want you personally to exceed and progress.”

The Open Evening is ideal for academic high flyers, such as Richard, to look around the dedicated Sixth Form building. The College offers more than 40 A Levels and has a proven track record of getting students in to their university of choice. Andover prides itself on the talented and experienced staff providing expert teaching and although importance is placed on good results, there is also a very strong focus on personal development, so students are genuinely prepared for life after college. The High Achievers programme stretches and stimulates the most able of students so they can continue to aim high and reach their full potential.

Those looking for a more hands-on course will enjoy a tour around the vocational based training facilities, all of which are designed to provide an industry equivalent training environment. Hair and Beauty has a number of contemporary professional salons which wouldn’t look out of place on any high street; the Construction workshops are fully kitted out with tools and trade machinery and the Motor Vehicle department has a range of cars from city compact to luxury saloon. The Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ Performing Arts department have their very own 100 seat theatre with industry standard light and sound facilities and Music students have use of recital rooms, recording studio, multi-media suite and a range of instruments. The College’s Sports department boasts their very own football stadium, The Portway, and offers free membership to Andover Leisure Centre gym and has comprehensive access to the centre’s facilities.

Andover was given a huge endorsement by Ofsted earlier this year. High standards and overall effectiveness were commended as ‘good’ with all areas inspected given a ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ rating and governance being acknowledged as ‘Outstanding’. Creative and Performing Arts (art, design, performing arts, music and music technology) were rated Outstanding” for teaching and learning.

Martin Simmons Andover College Vice Principal concludes: “What Andover College has to offer this town is a really high quality provision which means we should be the first choice for local students. A Levels are an excellent route to university but so too are a number of vocational BTEC courses. The range of courses here at Andover means that our students can successful progress to either university or into full time employment.”

Go beyond and exceed your expectations at Andover College on Tuesday 7 October 2014, 6.00pm to 8.30pm or Wednesday 8 October 2014, 5.00pm to 7.30pm.
