ANDOVER STUDENTS GET PREPARED FOR UNIVERSITY, ONLINE!

Student Finance presentation

Andover students turned to their screens for a brand-new progression event – Uni Bound. Using Andover College’s online learning platform, pages of helpful information, tips and tricks, and a mixture of live and pre-recorded talks were pulled together by the College’s Careers Team to help students prepare for university.

Working with a number of the UK’s top Universities, such as University of Nottingham, Southampton and Portsmouth, students have been given access to valuable information on all aspects of higher education. From advice on the application process, to writing a personal statement, and applying for student finance, resources are available to help students every step of the way. The pages will stay online, and live talks have been recorded so that students can access the information at any stage of their journey to higher education.

The online event has been created by the Andover College Careers Team in lieu of a traditional progression event taking place this year. Carol Allen, Head of Careers, explains:

We were a bit nervous about the online format, but the day couldn’t have gone more smoothly. We had fantastic support from universities and the Southern Universities Network (SUN) with making our first ever Uni Bound, Higher Education day a success.

Ten universities pitched in to host live webinars and pre-recorded sessions – all designed to help our students throughout the entire higher education application process. Students could log on from wherever they were, and they did! We were very pleased with the amount of student participation throughout the day.

Alongside Uni Bound, the Careers Team have been taking the time to prepare all our staff for 2020 UCAS through staff training, including reference writing, in order to support students throughout their education. The Careers Team are also continuing to hold one-to-one sessions for students seeking advice during the time that students have been learning from home; these sessions have been running online and over the phone.
